GBDeflicker now with Nonlinear Correction, A major improvement

A customer sent us a clip of a bright sky with clouds and complained that GBDeflicker wasn't doing a good job of fixing it. After a bit or research, we discovered a much better algorithm for fixing flicker. Watch this short clip to see how well it worked...

Here's what the customer said,
I'm happy to purchase and support people who like to work with others and I love to RnD and test all graphics connected software, so I was happy to purchase it and get in contact with you.
Yes, please use it as an example as you totally deserve it ! New algorithm seems to be awesome and I'll be happy to make more tests for you - let me know when you'll have anything new. Can't wait to get new version!

We call this new option "Nonlinear correction" and it is now applied by default.

GBTimelapse using a Netbook computer

A small inexpensive netbook computer is perfect for using GBTimelapse in the field. A typical netbook has plenty of computing power, battery life and storage to capture a multi-hour time-lapse.

On a recent trip to Paris, I set up my Toshiba Netbook NB205 on a wall of the Trocadero overlooking the Eiffel Tower. The computer and PowerShot SX110 IS camera were lightweight and easy to carry in my backpack.

I used Manual shooting mode so it wouldn't change exposure while clouds passed overhead. I chose an image setting of Large/Superfine (3456x2592) and a time interval of 5 seconds.

Here's a copy of the GBTimelapse session log. You can see that despite four capture errors, GBTimelapse recovered and kept on running.

An inexpensive netbook is a great way to run GBTimelapse. I picked up my NB205 for less than $350.

GBTimelapse supports Canon 500D T1i

We've just finished GBTimelapse version 2.1.19 with support for the Canon 500D digital SLR.

In our tests the 500D ran long enough on a full battery charge to shoot almost 3,000 images at a 5 second interval (ISO 500, Tv=0.5", Av=f/5.6, WB=Daylight, Size=Large/Normal).

A few tips on using this camera:

1) After establishing the focus, switch the lens to MF to avoid unnecessary focusing for subsequent shots.

2) Before using the camera, use it's internal menu to change the "Auto power off" setting from it's 30 second default to 4 minutes or more.

3) Avoid using auto ISO, it causes extra delays

4) Stick to the standard shooting modes P, Tv, Av, and M

5) If the camera has an error while running with GBTimelapse, clear the error by turning the camera off and then back on again.

Good Luck!
